Six years ago, I was finishing up my masters degree at the University of Washington when I met Ava, who was starting her first year in the engineering program. Though there was an age difference, we bonded over our love of the outdoors and adventure. After many hikes and late night conversations, we began quietly dating to the surprise of our friends. When I graduated and got a job in Portland, the long distance took its toll. Ava and I parted ways, though I never fully got over her. Then two years later, fate brought us back together when I moved to Seattle for an new job. The old spark was still there and we dove back in headfirst. I knew I wanted to spend my life with Ava, so I began planning the perfect proposal during our upcoming trip to Banff National Park in Canada. On our last evening in Banff, Ava and I watched the sunset from atop Sulphur Mountain, the stunning mountainscape of Lake Louise glowing before us. As the sky turned to dusk, I got down on one knee and asked Ava to marry me. Overcome with joy, she said yes. It was the perfect moment, cementing that we had found our forever in each other once again.
