Wilhelm and I were married young, and from the start our love has faced challenges. Many years ago, Wilhelm was in an accident that left him wheelchair-bound. But he has never let that dim his bright spirit or our joy in life together. For our golden anniversary, we wanted to return to the place we exchanged vows - the beach in Kiel. When we arrived at the shore hand in hand, I was transported back to that sunny summer day in 1970. Wilhelm's smile is as radiant as ever, though now lines crinkle at the edges. The morning light sparkled on the water just as it did then. Two children and four grandchildren later, I still treasure every smile and touch from my husband. Though his legs did not carry him as far as hoped, his heart has walked with me every step of our journey. I am grateful for the mercy that granted us 50 years finding new wonders in each other's company, through change and constancy alike. Our loving embrace underneath the seagulls’ calls was a blessing and reminder of promises kept. Returning to where our story began filled me with gratitude for this life, and joy in all the tomorrows left to enjoy by Wilhelm's side.
