I had been dreaming of proposing to Kari for months.

I had been dreaming of proposing to Kari for months. Our one-year anniversary was coming up, and I wanted to make it truly special. She had always talked about how beautiful the beaches of Cape Cod looked, so I planned a surprise weekend getaway. As the sun began to set on our first evening there, I took Kari's hand and led her down to the shore. The ocean glittered like gold under the fading light. We walked along the wet sand, laughing and chatting as waves lapped at our feet. When we reached a large piece of driftwood, I stopped to gaze into her eyes. Reaching into my pocket, I got down on one knee. Kari's hands flew to her mouth in surprise as I presented the small black box. "Kari, this past year with you has been the happiest of my life. Will you make me the luckiest man in the world and marry me?" I asked nervously. Tears welled in Kari's eyes as she smiled brightly. "Yes!" she whispered joyfully, throwing her arms around my neck. I swept her up in my embrace, feeling like the happiest man alive. As the sun dipped into the horizon, our future together had never looked brighter.
