Joanne and I were classmates in university. Who knew destiny would lead us here? 5 incredible years after she said yes! To commemorate our anniversary, I planned a surprise weekend getaway to our alma mater. Friday night's activities involved drink, stargazing and laughing over old inside jokes. Waking up in each other's arms under the stars took me right back to the start.The next day, visiting familiar spots brought a rush of nostalgia. I still remember the exact bleacher we sat in during our first kiss. After a picnic dinner, we wandered to that hallowed place hand in hand. Turning to face Joanne, I took her hands and thanked her for her patience and for supporting us through long distance when school and careers pulled us apart. From my pocket emerged a rose gold ring set, her favorite flower etched on the band. Placing it on her finger, she was so happy.
