Matthew and I had an unlikely beginning, meeting through volunteer work at our local church. While we butted heads at first, I found myself drawn to his kind spirit and easy laugh. Over shared coffees after service, we connected in a way I hadn't expected. A year into dating, Matt's nervous energy had me suspicious of his plans for our anniversary trip. He packed a surprising overnight bag before leading me to the marina as the sun dipped low. Waiting was a cozy sailboat dinner lit by lanterns with all my favorite foods. As we sailed out to watch the sunset, Matt dropped to one knee. With tears in his eyes, he expressed how much our time together had come to mean. When he opened a small black box to reveal a glittering ring, all I could say was "Yes!" Overcome with joy, I threw my arms around my best friend, ready to embark on forever by his side with the ocean as our witness. It was the perfect start to the next chapter of our story.
