I could hardly contain my excitement as Tom and I packed the car for our 20th wedding anniversary trip.
I could hardly contain my excitement as Tom and I packed the car for our 20th wedding anniversary trip. We'd decided to celebrate by exploring Monument Valley, and I couldn't wait to see the iconic red rock formations in person. After a long day of driving through southern Utah, we arrived at our lodge just as the sun was setting. Stepping outside, I gasped at the massive sandstone buttes soaring all around us, bathed in a golden glow. It was more dramatic and unusual than any landscape I'd ever seen. Over the next few days, I immersed myself in the natural and cultural wonders of this special place. Hiking among the monoliths, I admired ancient petroglyphs and the changing tones of red rock at dawn and dusk. Learning about the Navajo people from our native guide only added to the experience. One night, a traditional dance performance left me spellbound. Holding Tom close under the stars, I felt tiny yet deeply connected to this land and its history. Most of all, I treasured our time exploring together after two decades of love and partnership. As our trip drew to a close, I stood arm in arm with Tom, taking in the epic desert panorama one final time. Being in such a profoundly beautiful place reinforced what really mattered - the journey we still had before us, side by side, for many years to come. I was grateful for this man and the life we shared.
