Ingrid Müller&Karl

We've known each other our whole lives but it was love at first sight when we met at the village dance in 1960. This year, our 50th wedding anniversary fell on a Sunday in June. All of our children, grandchildren, and even a few great-grandchildren came to celebrate with us. I had been planning something very special to commemorate this huge milestone. You see, 50 years ago on our wedding day it poured with rain during the entire church ceremony. We joked that it was a sign of the joy and togetherness we would share, through both sunny days and rainy ones. On this anniversary Sunday, I woke Karl early and told him to dress warmly. I packed us a picnic and we got into our old Volkswagen. We went to the little church where we said "I do" all those decades ago. Just as I hoped, dark clouds had rolled in and a soft spring rain was falling. Karl smiled knowingly as I set out the food. "To 60 years of marriage, mein lieber," I said, raising my glass of Riesling. We reminisced about our wedding, how nervous yet happy we felt despite the dreary weather. We talked about all the adventures we've shared since - raising our family, traveling together in retirement. Through it all, our love has only deepened with time. As we finished our picnic, I took Karl's hands in mine. "To many more years together, rain or shine," I said. He leaned in and kissed me sweetly, and in that moment I was grateful for my best friend and partner of six decades.
