I met my now-wife Emily when we bonded over our love of roller derby. Few years ago, after a tough bout that left me with a few bruises, Emily nursed me back to health with her kind bedside manner. I soon realized I was falling for her tough but caring nature. Fast forward to our second anniversary - I signed us up for an extreme couples obstacle race in the mountains. Emily was shocked but eager to take on the challenge with me. Over 10 miles we crawled through mud, scaled rocky cliffs and braved an alpine lake crossing. It was grueling but being together made the stressful moments fun. At the finish line, exhausted but elated, I thanked Emily for being my perfect partner - in derby, in life, and in pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. Her competitive spirit inspires me daily. After a steamy outdoor shower to clean off, we watched the sunset with a bonfire, beers in hand. I feel so lucky to celebrate another year with my tough-as-nails soulmate. Roller derby brings us together and adrenaline keeps the passion alive!
